News from the doctors..
Well, it had been three weeks since my details had been passed down to Dr Simmons so I thought I would give him a quick call to see if there was any news. I thought I may be jumping the gun, seeing as he was on holiday for the first two of those three weeks but apparently not..
In a nutshell he told me there were *three* anomalies in my head (I thought there was only one, sort of rules out a random pointless lump), one in my cerebellum (coincidentally? where I had my brain attack) and two in my parietal lobe.. not knowing what the hell the parietal lobe does I paid a visit to the all-knowing, all-seeing Wikipedia:
The parietal lobe plays important roles in integrating sensory information from various parts of the body, knowledge of numbers and their relations, and in the manipulation of objects. Portions of the parietal lobe are involved with visuospatial processing. Much less is known about this lobe than the other three in the cerebrum.
Further quotes from a different website:
Damage to the left parietal lobe can result in what is called “Gerstmann’s Syndrome.” It includes right-left confusion, difficulty with writing (agraphia) and difficulty with mathematics (acalculia). It can also produce disorders of language (aphasia) and the inability to perceive objects normally (agnosia).
Damage to the right parietal lobe can result in neglecting part of the body or space (contralateral neglect), which can impair many self-care skills such as dressing and washing. Right side damage can also cause difficulty in making things (constructional apraxia), denial of deficits (anosagnosia) and drawing ability.
If it isn’t cancer but some other brain injuring situation, how the hell would I cope without my near-legendary math and self-dressing skills?!
The plan is to get me in for an MRI scan of my spine, then a week after to take a fluid sample via a lumbar puncture.. apparently the spine is directly connected to the coating of the brain, if there is any sign of cancer it *may* show up on the spine or in the fluid.
Dr Simmons said these anomalies didn’t show classic cancer traits and the sort of cancer that I had had normally doesn’t metastasise in such a way.. so it is a case of wait and see. If the MRI and spinal fluid tests don’t show anything they may want to take a biopsy of one of the bits, I assume that would mean drilling into my head ![]()
Not the best news for a birthday but what can you do, I have to get on and look forward to getting married in under five weeks and trying to spend as much quality time with H and Sam just in case..
I am sort of thinking my “days clear” counter on the top right is a little meaningless now ![]()
