Crash course in Brain Surgery

Well, I got the date and time of my op - tomorrow (Tuesday) at 8am so it’s ON! I’ll update as/when I am able to..turns out I have to go have a scan first thing in the morning, then I’ll be brought back to the Neuro ward and wait until the afternoon when they do the op.

The registrar described the procedure: they knock me out for the op, so my fears were unfounded about being awake through the procedure! He said they will probably hve to secure my head to the “table” which means sticking a couple of mini-bolts in the front - Frankensteins monster! This is done while I am under anaesthetic, and they cross-reference the scan with a map the computer makes up so they know at all times where they are cutting etc. The setting up of all of this can take aparently 50 minutes or so, the actual surgery is much quicker but they have to be careful they know where they are cutting etc!

There are obviously risks with any op, this is no exception so I am a little worried about waking up to be a little paralysed or something like that but it is a tiny risk :) So I should come round in the evening and find out how it went etc, if there are no serious side-effects etc I may even be allowed home Friday!!
