Sam’s Botox appointment today
Wednesday, March 12th, 2008Sam had his next Botox appointment at Southampton Hospital today, it’s to relax his right calf muscle so he doesn’t walk up on tiptoe. Firstly he gets given a mild sedative to chill him out, which makes him go a bit sleepy and loopy, funny as hell. Then after that has set in, they spray his calf muscle with a local anaesthetic and then plunge a 2″ needle into his calf to deliver the killer Botox. Bearing in mind this is basically a poison being delivered straight into the heart of the muscle, it absolutely kills. We have to hold him down and he pleads with us “Dad, please make it stop - I’ll be a good boy” - man, it breaks your heart absolutely, knowing we are putting him through it and could stop it
Luckily the sedative has an amnesiac effect so not long after the injection he has forgotten about all the pain, that is the only way H & I can justify putting him through it - short-term pain for long-term gain. It made me cry when he begged us to stop it, I was helping to hold him down but knew I could technically make them stop.
I took some video on my phone of the effects the sedative had on Sam, he was totally spaced out - I’ll upload it asap.
Again, big thanks to Gary for running us down there - he’s been an absolute brick lately and a real load of support for H and I ![]()
