for Jules, a reminder that Shark Weekend is back this coming weekend on Discovery channel - plenty of Chondrichthyes to the pound

The Last Theorem, Arthur C Clarke’s last book
Tuesday, July 29th, 2008I didn’t even realise there was one in the pipeline let alone it’s imminent release
“The Telegraph is running an excerpt from Arthur C. Clark’s last work, called ‘The Last Theorem.’ Fellow writer Frederik Pohl helped out. It’s a reassuring chunk of old-fashioned sci-fi, describing an Olympics that’s set on the moon. Typically for Clarkian sci-fi, is very much about the practicalities of mounting a Lunar Olympics, rather than any wild fantasy.”
The excerpt’s centerpiece is a trip to the moon that begins with a space elevator ride. The book will be published on Aug. 1.
Cool stuff, I’ll be ordering that as soon as I can find somewhere in the UK/Europe that will stock/ship it.
More on the puppy
Saturday, July 26th, 2008She has grown a little (funnily enough) and is reallly boisterous already. We can’t pick her up until we return from our Newquay trip (August 14th - 18th) - it seems like such a long time to wait ![]()
Bad back, bad back
Saturday, July 26th, 2008Yep it is still hurting a fair bit although it is calming down a tad; a hot water bottle applied at frequent intervals is helping a good deal. It is keeping me awake at night, though - I am waking pretty much every day at 2am because the painkillers have worn off and I have to get up for some more.

Found this band on the strength of a review in a guitar magazine - quality stuff
They are Greek and well into their Power Metal/Thrash riffs - the lead guitarist is a bit of a star too
Definitely worth a quick search on Youtube if you want a bit of no messing Power Metal!!
Bad back..
Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008I don’t know what I have done to deserve this but my back is killing me. It all stems from when we received our new bedstead last week but hadn’t received the matress. “No matter”, we thought,” well use the existing one for now.” Seems it wasn’t a good idea, the combination of the two threw my back out big time. I’m having trouble trying to find a comfortable sleeping position and painkillers/Deep Heat spray aren’t really doing anything
H has a sore neck as well, she tweaked it when sitting down on one of our dining chairs and is in agony - we are a right pair!
