Firewind

Found this band on the strength of a review in a guitar magazine - quality stuff :) They are Greek and well into their Power Metal/Thrash riffs - the lead guitarist is a bit of a star too :o

Definitely worth a quick search on Youtube if you want a bit of no messing Power Metal!!

London Guitar Show 2008

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

It was a fantastic day out, my brother and a friend came along too and we spent hours just drooling over guitars..

Guthrie Govan was playing with Billy Sheehan, that was a widdlefest and a half!

Paul Gilbert was cool, he played such a good set I think he was the best of the day by far (didn’t get to see Malmsteen though). He played to a backing cd so it was just him on stage.

We queued for nigh on an hour to try to get Satriani’s autograph at the Vox stand but ran out of time.. my brother tried using my current ill health situation to move us up the queue with the Vox staff but they were unable to help; I did get given a couple of free t-shirts though !

More Big cheese

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Following on from my Extreme fetish, I have been listening to a lot of Mr Big lately too - I think it has come about because we are off to the London Guitar Show on Saturday and Paul Gilbert (ex Mr Big guitarist) is playing there.

Extreme cheese (or Get The Funk Out)

I’m just listening to Extreme’s Pornograffitti album, I’d forgotten how much of a quality album this is! Such a sweet guitar sound and general mix.

I’m sat with it blaring out of the (loud) laptop speakers and surfing away, quality stuff :)

The Sword

Came across this band from a review on last month’s Total Guitar magazine - they are definitely worth checking out if you are a fan of early Metallica, Sabbath and CoC, excellent stuff!

Website and myspace page..

Gave Jackson an airing..

I sat on the bed and had a quick strum earlier, it felt really weird and the relevant muscles (fingers/arms/shoulders) cried out with the recent non-use!

It was pretty depressing, I couldn’t remember hardly anything I used to be able to play - even Fade To Blacck had… faded to black :(

Oh well, hopefully time will help and it will give me something to do other than sitting around watching TV :)

Symphony X

Paul and Jo put me onto this band yesterday, I had heard of them but never actually heard any of their stuff. A quick listen to their newest album shows they are cool, much like a heavier Dream Theater which is cool!

Time to look up their back catalogue I think ..
