Rock Night @ The Oak last night

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

We went to the Royal Oak last night for this month’s Rock Night and had a real good time :) I wasn’t sure about going, a bit worried about the pains in my head and the loud music etc but it was cool - I sat at the bar and just necked loads of JD which went down almost far too well, then it was back to Mum’s with Steve, Gary and Gemma (and of course H) for more drinkage etc. We stayed up past 3am talking and having a laugh, then it was time for a few hours kip before getting up for a cooked breakfast etc.

It was really good to see my friends again, the last time I saw most of them was at Paul and Jo’s house warming do a few weeks ago. I hadn’t seen Carl for months, hadn’t really seen Paul/Matt/Jules for a while either so it was cool to see them and catch up.Apparently they are struggling to find another guitarist, always something that is a problem in Basingstoke - I really hope they can find someone,it would be a shame to have finally found a pretty much winning formula and lose it all :(

A quality night was had by all, I think!

hasn’t left her case since we moved house, I am too concerned to try playing again as I know my reflexes and legendary skills have seriously diminished somewhat :p

Do I try playing again and risk my last memories being bad ones..? :(

Mercury, Queen/Mercury tribute band

Mercury website

We went to see them last night at a local club (The Academy) and man, what a gig! They were fantastic in all ways, the stage presence and the actual performance of the songs etc. Me, Steve and Gary sat back and expected to be entertained and boy were we :) Never before have I seen a (and I hesitate to use the term) tribute band get the crowd going so well and get them up on the dance floor. I took a few pictures on my phone, obviously didn’t come out too well but you get the impression:

I was supposed to be going into work for a Developer meeting but it’s been postponed until Monday.. so I’m taking the time now to try to get my aged webcam set up under Linux so I can chat to my Dad/various people without having to use MSN and Vista.

GAIM-vv seems to be the way forawrd, I’l ltry it and see how it goes.

Currently sat in the study supping on a cup of tea (do you know I haven’t had a cup of coffee for over seven weeks!) and listening to some quality Bodom lml :)

well, no updates as there’s nothing to tell as yet. I have to call the hospital tomorrow I think to see if there’s any update on my handling, Dr Simmons is the man to speak with now and I need to chase him up to see what is going on.

Physically I’m feeling fine, *really* tired most of the time and having a real lack of energy thing but a lot of resting is needed and chilling out etc.
My head is a little tender still, I keep getting a slight ache from the top of my head and I’m not 100% sure if it’s just a hangover from the op or not.. hope so!

Still, I’m still around and living so to me that’s the good thing :)
I’m heading off to work tomorrow, at least for an hour or so just to get a change of scenery and try to get myself back into “work” mode and start living again..

Systematic Chaos

Systematic ChaosThe new/latest Dream Theater album dropped through my door Monday so I am sat here in hospital having a good listen right now - quality stuff!

Paul and Jo went to see them the other day, I was gutted I couldn’t make it but hey.. :( They bought me a t-shirt and programme, bless them - I was quite surprised and choked up, realy nice thing to do :)
If you buy the Special Edition of the album you get a 90-min bonus dvd of the making of the album, I haven’t had time t have a good watch of it yet but from the snippets I’ve seen it looks COOL!

35 today

Cor, 35 - how many times in the past couple of years did I think I wouldn’t make it this far! We had a party last Saturday, 50/50 for my birthday and just an excuse for a get together for friends and family.

It was pretty cool, most of my friends turned up and all the band was there too. It is really hard, there are too many little groups for me to make it round to talk to everyone, much as I tried. But hey, you cannot complain about having too many friends and family!

Amanda approached me about playing guitar in a Motley Crue tribute band, to play at her 40th birthday party next October. Of course I said yes, how could I turn down playing some seriously quality tunes? Carl will be playing drums, I’m not sure yet if they have approached Richard and Andy to do bass and vocals respectively but it will be a killer line up! The Crue were ripping up my car stereo on the way to work this morning, and are currently queued up in WMP to listen to at work.. the question is, which songs to play? Of course I have my favourites but I’m not sure if Amanda wants to pick the playlist or not - if so that’s entirely cool, there aren’t any songs I don’t like, just some that are odd tunings or needing more than one guitar which could cause problems.
My choices would be along the lines of (in no particular order):

  • Wild Side
  • Red Hot
  • Dr Feelgood (dropped d tuning though)
  • Girls, Girls, Girls
  • Looks That Kill
  • Kickstart My Heart
  • Primal Scream
  • Hooligans Holiday

There are a lot of others, some more mellow stuff but we’d have to look and see if they could be done with just one guitar.

Right, back to work - guess who didn’t get round to booking the day off for their birthday :p
