Mercury, Queen/Mercury tribute band

Mercury website

We went to see them last night at a local club (The Academy) and man, what a gig! They were fantastic in all ways, the stage presence and the actual performance of the songs etc. Me, Steve and Gary sat back and expected to be entertained and boy were we :) Never before have I seen a (and I hesitate to use the term) tribute band get the crowd going so well and get them up on the dance floor. I took a few pictures on my phone, obviously didn’t come out too well but you get the impression:

Remember - Christina Georgina Rossetti

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

I have had this in mind for years to be read at my funeral, guess I need to commit the details to paper soon and get it all sorted:

REMEMBER me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann’d:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

Yeah morbid I know but it’s it.. and I want Steve Vai’s “For The Love Of God” to be played when I’m sent down the ramp to the ovens :)

changes in driving speeds penalties pondered..

Friday, November 9th, 2007

“Drivers caught speeding could be given more penalty points on their licence depending on how much over the speed limit they are.

Ministers are looking at a scheme under which the worst offenders would get six points on their driving licence.

This raises the prospect that drivers could face being banned from driving for two speeding offences. ”

Call me silly, but if you don’t want to get banned don’t flipping speed?! Okay, I’ll likely do 85 on the motorway and I KNOW that’s bad.. but they are talking about doing 45mph in a 30mph zone which is just wrong. think of the kids, man.. I often see people driving past our local schools blatantly doing more than 30mph and when I drive past sticking to 30mph the drivers behind me will be right up my arse.

I’ll wait for Andy Haywood to comment on this.. ;)

Old laptop and linux

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

Last Sunday I bought an old T23 Thinkpad to use for some basic web surfing.. we’ve been using my work T43 and it’s not enough for just one person (despite having the main pc upstairs :/) so I thought I’d cough up £60 for a 2nd hand old laptop.

P1.13GHz, 256MB ram (another 256 on order) etc so it’s not that bad - thing is, XP runs okay and recognises the wlreless card but Linux does not. “XP it is then,” you say but it’s just too much of a dog - Fedora 7 failed badly so I’m downloading Xubuntu as we speak to try it out. With the Resitrcted Driver thing going on it should work - I have a large number of Bookmarked pages from the ubuntuforums.org site ready at my disposal so it should work.

In theort as it’s XFCE based it should be nice and quick, especially when the extra 256MB ram comes in!

I feel compelled to write something..

TFS.. not sure what though! I’m sat here at 8.20am on Saturday morning having been up for a good couple of hours, partway through installing a 2003 Server VM so I can tinker with Team Foundation Server to refamiliarise myself with it (we are looking at using it at work..)
It seems installing straight to a physical disk is MUCH faster than a vhd so I’m partitioning my 200Gb SATA drive to free up 30Gb or so for fast access :)

Discovery Shark Week

.. what is a man to do apart from watch?!?!?

hmm

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

well, no updates as there’s nothing to tell as yet. I have to call the hospital tomorrow I think to see if there’s any update on my handling, Dr Simmons is the man to speak with now and I need to chase him up to see what is going on.

Physically I’m feeling fine, *really* tired most of the time and having a real lack of energy thing but a lot of resting is needed and chilling out etc.
My head is a little tender still, I keep getting a slight ache from the top of my head and I’m not 100% sure if it’s just a hangover from the op or not.. hope so!

Still, I’m still around and living so to me that’s the good thing :)
I’m heading off to work tomorrow, at least for an hour or so just to get a change of scenery and try to get myself back into “work” mode and start living again..
