Thursday, November 1st, 2007Just for my own reference:
Configure eth0:
netsh interface ipv4 add address “Local Area Connection” static IP-address subnet-mask gateway
(replace all with relevant ip addresses)

.. which is probably a good sign, I can’t seem to sit still so I’m off for a walk in a mo.. nowhere really to walk than up to Asda, party!
Man what a ‘mare! If you don’t have two physical NICs in your server WSv will steal the only NIC for networking and the host server won’t be able to use it (although it *can*) :p
So at the mo my test server is running/installing two copies of 2003 Server under WSv but I can’t RDP to the host, I had to grab a 15″ monitor from the garage and physically attach(!).
I have read that installing Linux VMs is nigh on impossible too under WSv but I’ll give it a try - if it doesn’t play ball I’ll just reboot into Fedora, no stress (aah, dual boot!)
I didn’t think a direct picture would necessarily be approiriate!
Looks a bit gruesome but that was taken on Tuesday, just five or six days after the op! As I said, I’m thinking about going for the shave head thing but am a little worried about the scar and me looking like a bit of a thug!
There is still some manky brain juice matter bits, seeing as I haven’t been able to wash my hair anything that has oozed out since/at the op has just sat there.. gross ![]()
Well, no news on my apparent health crisis! I called Southampton yesterday and left a message, Dr Simmons was in clinic and his secretary said she’d pass on the message for him to call me today.. we’ll see.
Everything seems to have died down to a numb sort of existence - I’m still deliberating whether to buy a new coat or not, we only last night talked about Christmas etc.. its all a bit wooly and without more info re: my health we just can’t do anything.
Off for my first solo trip soon, gotta head into town (on the bus.. eurgh!) and look for a wedding present for Gary and Gemma and I MAY have a browse round the jackets etc ![]()
I thought it would be a right PITA to install VMWare Tools from the command line, indeed the VMWare forums are very handy with giving you complex install instructions.
The simple fact of it is that you just tell VMWare to install the Tools, then within the core cmd prompy just navigate to the d: drive and issue the “setup” command.. the GUI will still run.
However, if you do still want to silently run the install from the command line WITHOUT the GUI:
msiexec /i d:vmwaretools.msi /qn
Without installing the Tools, you will not have an eth0 (sorry, linux part of the brain..) I mean network card.
A good site for configuration hints:

Well, I have been running this for some time in a VM and it seems perfectly stable, I am considering upgrading my 2k3 server and running it live :/ I have been Googling to try to find the answer to the question of whether or not is will be upgradeable to the rtm release and I think it is - apparently the www.microsoft.com site is running it so I assume it will be!
Plus IIS7 is now issued with a Go Live license:
After months of preparing IIS7 for the release of Windows Server Codename “Longhorn” Beta 3, the IIS team is proud announce that IIS7 has reached a very high level of quality and is now ready for broad customer testing
Fingers crossed, all I have to lose is the weeks I spent getting IIS6 working properly under 2k3! I am looking to deploy it to test against, I’m sure we will end up using it at work and I am particularly interested in the Virtualization that will be coming soon after Longhorn is released..
